Why ssh “password” prompt takes too long to appear? The filename is /etc/nsswitch.conf. |

Why do I have to type ./ when executing scripts in my current directory? I added current directory as the last path since it's somewhat safer then have it first. The best is of course to be explicit and have them in ~/bin. |

How to really force unmount a filesystem (without manual investigation why is it busy) Try "lazy umount", umount -l. It always umounts but could produce an unstable filesystem. |

Mounting a Nested SSH Location Or you can do a SOCKS proxy with ssh (-D <portnumber>) and "wrap" your ssh connection with tsocks. |

Change permission to /proc/net/ip_conntrack on Ubuntu server 9.10 /proc is a virtual filesystem that resides only in memory. You should put your chmod line in a start up script. |

How can I permanently fix my date synchronize problem in linux? ntpd is really the way to go. Running ntpdate with cron can give you some unwanted effects. |

How to set up that specific domains are tunneled to another server I haven't used Opera so I can't really tell. You could perhaps use tsock for that too. Use "tsocks ssh <sitethatneedtheproxy>" to ssh to sitethatneedstheproxy via your socks proxy. |

vendor and product id of a mounted/unmounted usb device No, it won't show mount point. That could be hard if it's unmounted anyway... :) |

Virtualbox, VMware, KVM or other for Ubuntu virtualization? Both those bugs seem to be fixed now, at least in Jaunty and newer. |

What could be the cause of randomly getting “No route to host” errors when trying to ssh or sftp? On Linux you do "iwlist <interfacename> channel". It shows all available channels and what channel you are using. You change it on your router (or access point) and your client will follow. |

Inverse multiplexing to speed up file transfer Bleh, bad ISP! I assume an UDP stream is limited similarly. I guess you have to write something yourself, don't think the torrent solution helps when you only have two machines involved. |

Inverse multiplexing to speed up file transfer What is limiting the TCP speed? A router between the machines? |

Inverse multiplexing to speed up file transfer I can't guarantee that all filesystems get a boost from this, it's depending on how inode layout is done. |
