comment ping can't resolve hostname, but nslookup can
@JdeBP: I'm using a proxy.pac that returns DIRECT for this URL. But it never gets so far; all the programs already fail to resolve the host name (no matter whether I configure to use a proxy or not).

comment ping can't resolve hostname, but nslookup can
@DavidSchwartz: I'm expecting resolution to work. What I don't understand how nslookup or host can resolve the name and anything else on the system can't.

comment How do I configure Wireshark to see only the problems?
I'm looking more for a "find unexpected problems" tool. In my case, I have a few network errors per day. The useless data is simply drowning out the few data points I need to see. But at least this would explain why there is no "help pinpoint problems" since you already know the problem.

comment Why can't ld.so preload libdiehard.so?
When I do that, then ld.so tries to apply the library to GDB as well. This doesn't do any harm but I can't set a breakpoint since the shared object isn't loaded by ld.so. I guess I need to use gdb ld.so but how do I do dynamic linking manually?

Yes, that works! If anyone else needs this for Chrome: Just disable the plugin (use the URL chrome://plugins/)

@patricks: Thanks the for tip; unfortunately, I failed to download the file. I just get a HTML file with some JavaScript that eventually contains document.location.replace('/Citrix/XenApp/site/launch.ica?... :-/ Is there another way to get this file?

comment How can I debug problems with Citrix XenApp?
@patricks: I'm inside the corporate network. What is "Citrix Environment"? All I have is a Citrix plugin installed in my browser and a button in a web page that I can click.

comment How can I print/display the “User Principal Name” or UPN of a “p12” certificate on Linux?
Whow ... complicated but it works. Just one thing. It prints :name@domain. I guess the colon can/must be ignored?

Thanks, I'll try that ASAP. And shouldn't that be hdparm -S (upper case)?

comment How to activate swap on Linux? “swapon -a” doesn't seem to work?
1) try sudo /sbin/lvmdump 2) The system should ask a password before the login screen, while you can see text on a black screen. This link might also help: help.ubuntu.com/community/EncryptedFilesystemHowto3

comment What does “delete all disabled modules” do in Jenkins?
What is a "disabled module"? Jenkins doesn't have modules, it has projects and plugins. Maven has modules but what there is no way to "disable" a module in Maven. You can only comment it out or delete the element in the POM.

@Jkguitar: I'm not thinking of you as a criminal, I'm thinking of you as a minor. You become an adult when you always consider how a plan might backfire. :-)

comment School internet's firewall doesnt allow online games
If your school allowed to play these games, they would tell you how to configure your computer. If they don't allow it, changing the options would be against the rules -> there can't be a "legal" way to do what you want without asking for permission.
