comment Which Linux-based firewall supports IPv6?
My problem is mostly that I know very little about BSD so I'm worried how long it will take me to get my tasks done when similar Linux versions (say openSUSE and Ubuntu) are already so different...

+1 Maybe it's really time switch from Linux to FreeBSD...

I'm aware of the limitations of Blender. My hope is that some physics lab has developed something better :-)

I'm aware that I would need a special viewer to visualize the result. NASA, for example, creates a TIFF image with many layers where each layer maps a certain frequency (probably a frequency range)

comment How to find the process(es) which are hogging the machine
Thanks; this isn't exactly what I was looking for but at least it's a good starting point.

It would be nice if such a tool exists because it's certainly possible to determine this automatically: If I can tell from the output of top, so can a computer. This isn't Mona Lisa's Smile, it's just crunching some numbers to find "bad" ones.

Any tools which tell me which driver/component causes the high IRQ load?

I'm looking for something more high level. It should run vmstat and analyze the numbers for me, so I don't have to know what "cs" means and whether a big "cs" is "good" or "bad".

+1 But I'm more looking for a tool which does this analysis for me and prints the process along with some info what's wrong. I don't want to gather that from the "raw" figures. Anything?

I look for something that I run and which says "Process X is hogging the machine".

This is just an example. Please take it with a grain of salt. Imagine a noob is sitting in front of the computer who knows nothing. How can he find out most easily what is going on (i.e. without spending half an hour googling what the output of top means)

Why? The question is still relevant.

As I said: Configure the code cleanup. Just remove "Format Source Code" from the options.

comment Extracting all the still images from a movie
But it's hard to keep to the time. Sometimes, I have to leaf through pages or check the backside, etc. It would be much more comfortable, if the software could simply extract the first frame of all duplicates.

+1 for the general direction of the answer. What I'd like is a way to find duplicate/very similar frames and keep only those.

I've rewritten my answer to make it more obvious that one link goes to a HOWTO which might help.

Since there doesn't seem to be any tools for this around, they could be used as stepping stones to build such a tool.
