comment Strange issue in Running an application with remote desktop on Windows XP
The only time I saw this problem is with a graphic application because RDP screws with the video driver while connected. Using VNC gets around the problem nicely.

comment Opening a big file
@Ganesh - I'll double-check that. I thought the one on my work computer was 64-bits, maybe it as both binaries. At least it is running under a 64-bit system.

Guess I'm missing the right word for pending installation vs pending acceptance, sorry.

comment How To Cancel Pending Windows 7 Updates
Unfortunately this did not work since the problematic update was no longer on the list of available updates.

comment How to disable <user-folder> and `Libraries` item in Windows 7 sidebar?
Good question. I am also annoyed by the Favorites and would like to only leave Computer and Network there, so if anyone can answer inclusively of disabling those, that would be awesome!

comment Is more memory in a graphic card always better?
Sorry to say that the pages you linked have you confused. If you look at the specification section, memory speed is identical and 4008 Mhz (Effective) for both cards, which means 1002Mhz at 4-transfers per clock.

comment How do I troubleshoot high CPU usage?
That is very unusual, I would suspect a driver issue OR faulty H/W. You'll have to try a couple of things: (1) upgrade all your drivers, (2) remove all non-essential H/w, (3) uninstall drivers. If you do this one by one with a reboot it between you may find the culprit.

comment VT-x/AMD-V Work-Around For VirtualBox?
Back already from a couple of reboots and yes you got it. Parallels runs a system level service which I disabled in YaST (OpenSUSE's control panel) and now VirtualBox does not complain. It tries to boot the machine which gives a BSOD but I guess that's for another question.

Parallels for OpenSUSE 11.2 (Linux) running Windows 7 64-bit as the Guest oS. So, I'm not a Mac guy either.

comment VT-x/AMD-V Work-Around For VirtualBox?
Interesting! Parallels is not running but there may be a daemon in the background. Any idea how to check and disable it temporarily? BTW, simply killing the Parellels processes did not work (the processes are gone but VirtualBox still complains).

comment Convert Parallels VM to Virtual Box VM?
Well, from your latest comment, it seems at least the 'conversion' worked, so I'll make this answer accepted and open another question for the VT-x/AMD-V issue.

comment Convert Parallels VM to Virtual Box VM?
Unfortunately I tried this and when taking it off... it says 'You are using a 64-bit client OS and this is required and will be enabled automatically'... If I start the machine and ignore warnings, it keeps trying to boot infinitely. Would using a different version of VirtualBox let it run the Parallels machine without this?

comment Which Linux distro does not require me to upgrade very often?
There are so many reasons to choose one over another but other than frequency of upgrades, what are you looking for? It would be hard to get meaningful answers otherwise.

comment Convert Parallels VM to Virtual Box VM?
Thank you for your patience. Getting there. After conversion, VirtualBox accepts to add the disk and creates a VM. Only it does not start, it gives the error: 'VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration has been enabled, but is not operational.... Please ensure you have VT-x/AMD-V enabled in the BIOS of your host computer'. Well, I tried but I have no such option. Parallels has no trouble running the VM, so maybe it is not 'properly migrated'. What can I do?

comment Convert Parallels VM to Virtual Box VM?
Getting closer, updated VirtualBox to 4.0.4.12 which now sees the .hdd file but gives an error: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) - I tried with the VM not running and running, same error.

comment Convert Parallels VM to Virtual Box VM?
VirtualBox is 3.0.6 and OpenSUSE is 11.2. I've been trapped at 11.2 because of Parallels.
