comment Is it a big performance gain to run a VM from a second drive?
But that's exactly what is needed -- working with two disks at the same time; one running the host, one running the VM. Both are needed at the same time. So "yes" to two disks for performance.

comment Why does my screen dim on a desktop installation of Windows 7?
@jthg - Good points. I will have to watch the system more closely next time to see if I can determine what action caused it to dim to see if there is a possibility of a "missing dialog."

comment Why does my screen dim on a desktop installation of Windows 7?
Hmm... I don't see anything. I minimized each window and there's nothing in the task bar. The only app in use is Firefox browsing the web.

comment Windows 7 “Libraries” - How do you back them up?
The article led me to what I needed. What I was asking was a way to back up my library structure. Not the physical files contained in the library. But the article discussed where the libraries are defined, which is what I really needed. Thank you.

comment Windows 7 “Libraries” - How do you back them up?
Followup - I wonder if there is a way move the .library-ms files so they are included in my data backup? Registry entry? Suggestions?

You are correct. I have no problem backing up my data. It is the library structure I want to back up. Thank you for the answer. I will try and clarify my question.

comment what the best simple video editing program?
Sony Vegas Movie Studio is about $40. The Platinum edition is closer to $80. Both will be more than adequate for @Itay: amazon.com/s/… . The Pro version is for professionals; way overkill.

comment Can I make Firefox's Search Bar open page in new tab?
Agreed. It's one of the first add-ons I install after Firefox. It's rare that I can't find some combination features that let me get Firefox tabs working exactly the way I want.

comment Can I make Firefox's Search Bar open page in new tab?
I selected this answer because it is the best Firefox-only solution (no add-ons). I ended up using @alex's solution but I can only select one. Thank you everyone.

I've been a long-time user of TabMixPlus but I never made the connection that it could control this. Thanks.

I used the Magic Wand tool but there are other ways, like @SidneySM's suggestion above.

comment About Hard Disk Drive Docks
@Crossbrowser - With their BeyondRAID and other plug-and-play features, it really does a lot more than a simple HDD dock. Drobo is really poplular in video editing setups. Check out their product demo: drobo.com/resources/drobodemo.php

comment Is there a “save desktop icon arrangement” option in windows?
I tried Fences but I just uninstalled it. As of Sep 2009, Fences started bundling a content distributed app called Impulse (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impulse_%28content_delivery%29). I find it unconscionable that any legitimate software company would install such a piece of software without your knowledge or permission.

comment Can I safely charge my laptop with a non-standard, third-party charger?
Small Note - The voltage and polarity of the new charger must be the same as the old one but the amperage of the new charger can be higher (i.e. can be higher but not lower than the old one).

comment My computer raises the ambient room temperature by about 4°F. I don't like it (in the summer)
Downgrading the cooling will not keep the room cooler. Once the heat builds up, it doesn't just stay inside the case. It has to dissipate into the room. All of it.

comment How to pipe internet radio into a tuner?
The type used for iPods/cars... very very short. Like a few feet at best. There might be something better for household use, though.

comment Troubleshooting a router, stops responding periodically (D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit)
@tester101 - Me? I live in Central Florida. Everyday: "Hazy, hot and humid, high in the upper 90's, chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon" all summer. The local utility is nick-named "Florida Flash and Flicker" for a reason. It's pretty much a state-wide problem.
