comment Can harddrives destroy motherboards/bioses?
Yeah, well this PC is a bit newer (later than 2000, using DDR4 ram but still no PCI-E slot, so I dunno exactly). I think the protection may have been to clear the bios? I dunno, but I definitely want to fix it if it's possible because it's a great motherboard with a cooling fan on the bus and everything. :'(

comment Is there any way to access an unrecognized usb device?
definitely try plugging it into another machine, see if it works there. What's the exact model of the MP3 player?

Yeah, find the driver for the device and install it. The real problem comes when the device doesn't have a driver (supposed to be mass storage device, for example)

The PC only supports USB 2.0, but it's a USB 3.0 device: sabrent USB-DSC9.

comment I cannot login to the Netgear genie/router dashboard
Netgear support will ask you for 79 dollars for 6 months of support and then access it for you to install your firmware. It's how they're conning people to generate more income: their firmware corrupts itself after your software warranty expires.

You guys are ridiculous. This question is wildly specific, and it has more solutions than just one. Giving it a -2 is kind of BS when you have commenters who are not satisfied with the answer.

This answer is so much better because I can do it on Windows, too. And this guy actually wrote a program to get the answer.

comment Are Google Chrome's in-text ads from malware?
I sure wish there were a way to manually figure out where these come from. I have an extension that installed and then removed itself from my extensions list, but it's still functioning as an active extension....

comment Can I transfer security certificates for VPN to my PC? -or- Where do I find VPN passwords?
@vembutech Well, the thing is, there's no password given on the iPhone version of the app. I'm just typing the server info into my PC. So, I'm not sure if there's some other way to connect to a vpn that doesn't require a pass or that takes certificates in lieu of a pass...
