@grawity no, i couldn't. no (working) cd drive. what i have is a live cd ISO burned to a flash drive, with the persistent file on the flash drive

@grawity sudo chmod 0440 /etc/sudoers yields: sudo: /etc/sudoers is mode 0644, should be 0440 sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting I am booting from the live cd, i have no ubuntu on my computer.

su root asks for a password, is that my password or the root password? ubuntu has a root account, but it has no password, and livecd ubuntu's account password ("") does not work. i will look at the guide

I am not sure how to reinstall windows, it came installed, but I will try changing the extended partition.

If I did have one, how could I get rid of it? just delete? and couldn't I use the same hard disk if I needed to recover?

I put the importance of the linux partition above the one of windows. But anyways, how would I do this? Is there anyway to do it on linux (ubuntu)?
