comment If I combine a PCIe x16 graphics card and a PCIe x4 hardware RAID, does the graphics card get 16 lanes?
So to clarify, when the CPU provides 8 lanes to one slot with a PCIe 3.0 card in it, and 8 lanes to another slot with a PCIe 2.0 card, the 3.0 card will run at 3.0 x8 speeds, correct? In other words, can the CPU run half of its 16 lanes at a different speed?

With your help, I've spotted one other way of explaining that the lanes are independent: "4 lanes from the PCH" and such. I wish they would specify the total number of independent lanes connected to all the slots.

comment Why is my CPU usage broken in Process Explorer?
@Leftium I don't remember exactly; I think it locked up when I did something simple. But no worries; I've switched to ProcessHacker and I see no reason to ever look back; I couldn't find a single missing feature and a bunch of improvements I've wanted for ages. Highly recommended.

I also had this happen when running a 64-bit program on a 32-bit machine. Gotta love 'em "friendly" messages which fail to tell you what actually went wrong.

comment How to fully uninstall a Windows Store app?
@Karan Unfortunately it didn't; all the code there uses the same calls and has the same problem with those last few pesky ones...

comment PowerShell to remove built-in Windows 8 apps?
@Ariane There are 1.5GB worth of them on my SSD... that's a clean install, although I did run some of them a couple of times out of curiosity.

Alright, Remove-AppxPackage has removed two thirds of the remaining apps; for the rest it fails with "Windows cannot remove <app> because the current user does not have that package installed". Is there absolutely no way to remove them? One of these is Bing Travel, and this is a clean install with just a single user.

Nice! This worked for 25% of the directories in there, but for 75% of them it says "The system cannot find the file specified". Any ideas about these?

comment “Safely Remove Hardware” icon in Windows 8
It did help! For me this was caused by a memory card reader plugged into the ExpressCard slot. Unplugging it, or disabling the "USB Mass Storage" device corresponding to it, made the tray icon disappear. Would have been much nicer if the icon only appeared when there was a memory card inserted and mounted!
