Dude... I like this Ninite thing. I've never heard of it before, but it looks like everything Google Pack tried to be.

comment Bootloader problem - Windows XP and Windows 7, dropping Linux
The "Linux isn't ready for the desktop" commentary isn't really relevant, and will just cause some unnecessary debate.

comment Anyone have any problems with Gparted (open source partition editor) on Windows? I.e., Is it SAFE?
+1. You can't prove a negative. "I won't hurt my computer" can be supported by a million anecdotes, but it only takes one error to ruin the premise.

If you post the structure of intrulog, I can add an analysis to my answer of what this command will end up returning.

comment Is there a good way to make a remote machine dual-bootable into Windows and Linux?
The initial settings would be in the grub configuration, pre-imaging.

comment AMD K8 vs. AMD64
No, not necessarily. That said, most do add at least some extensions to the previous processor's instruction set. For example, the Sandy Bridge microarchitecture contains AVX and VEX extensions to the x86 set for improved floating point and programmable opcodes, respectively. I can't really think of any ones that don't at least have some small extensions.

@Miles Correct, however it would be a purely academic pursuit. It won't do much about #2 (tracing) if his goal is #3 (pressing charges).

Might want to do fold -s -w 80 filename, so that it breaks at spaces instead of the middle of the word.

comment CPU usage jumps to 100% -> WHEN <- machine is idle (not the idle process)
You set DMA/PIO mode under the properties of your hard drive controllers in Device Manager, not the hard drives themselves.

Your question was in bold. "Is a ramdrive suitable for this?" -- Especially considering the context, the answer is "no."

There's no way that I know of within Windows to determine the source of a hardware interrupt. It goes directly from the device to the CPU by design. You may want to try marking down the model numbers of each of your internal devices and see if there are any known issues for them with regards to excessive interrupts. Sometimes it's as simple as a HD being set to PIO mode instead of DMA.

comment Does ClipX work on Windows 7 / 2008 R2 x64 SP1?
I don't know exactly what the change was. I'm not a developer, but all of the custom .NET applications that our developers created had to be rewritten for Win7 because the clipboard integration just stopped working. Perhaps it was a certain library that they were using.

I know not of anything like this, but I would be extremely interested if someone else has heard of relatively simple software that could do this.

comment Need to remove personal data but unable to boot up
@TheJourneymanGeek The recovery partition wouldn't have anything to do with it. Wiping the full drive with DBAN would more than be sufficient for most intents and purposes.

Are your extensions actually incompatible, or are you just pulling your hair out from worry because it maybe could happen?

Mailman's mail-based functions are listed here: gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/node10.html -- for example sending "who (password)" to "mylist-admin@domain.com" will return a list of subscribers, or am I misunderstanding your need?
