comment Stop Windows 7 from forcefully shutting itself down when waiting to update
Now that I think of it I'm thinking perhaps my configurations have gotten messed up somewhere along the line because I no longer receive the notices telling me that updates are available and that I need to restart. I don't tend to ignore those for very long but since I'm not getting them anymore it makes it hard to choose to reboot when its convenient.

My concern has nothing to do with whether or not the updates should be installed. My main beef with how this currently functions is that since the reboot is a force reboot it kills everything without giving me the option of saving. As the result I've lost data from word documents I was in the middle of editing an most recently I had a VM completely killed (I can't get it to load now) because it was running when the force reboot occurred.

The cell containing the reference to F6 doesn't move... just the contents of F6

That's how I thought it should work but it doesn't seem to. I changed the reference from "= F6" to "=F$6" in the cell that I want to remain statically linked to F6 no matter how many rows are inserted above it. Then I tried it out by inserting a row above (creating a new F row). Now the cell that referenced F6 before is "= F$7". Any thoughts?

I spoke with HP and am trying to talk them in to making an exception for the 7 days we're past the warranty but I'm not sure if I'll succeed. They're quoting me $50 for phone diagnosis plus $350 if it were to turn out to be the motherboard. Is this reasonable for that kind of service?

I would completely agree except for the fact that it does power on and will boot into windows and run for a bit. If this particular laptop was designed as you indicated it wouldn't power on at all.
