comment strange problem with my motherboard
Right. Lack of a heatsink will cause rapid problems, especially on older CPUs without good thermal throttling. Lack of a fan on that heatsink will not cause problems very quickly from a cold start. It probably won't cause problems at all unless the system is under load.

comment How to Clear your browsing history
"Secure shredding", in the sense of multipass overwrite, is overkill unless you're already doing onion-routing or what have you to avoid surveillance and router logs. Those are much lower hanging fruit than sophisticated drive recovery techniques which may or may not exist.

comment File system timeouts on network mounts are insane
Note that there's a tension here; you'd probably (usually) consider data corruption to be a worse problem than an OS hang, so it tends to try really hard to get your data written out. Programs tend not to be written with vanishing storage in mind.

comment Full physical hd check
My point is that "this task" is as obsolete as the concept of a "bad block".

comment Is RAID 0 as risky as people say it is?
Note that raid5 is pretty bad at random writes, since you need to do 3 IOs (a read and two writes) to update a single isolated block. That's worse than either raid0 (one write) or raid1 (two writes)
