comment How to lock Windows 10 screen without a keyboard?
This is pretty good although I'm still interested in an answer that wouldn't require setting something up in advance

comment Windows 7 SP1 Windows Update stuck checking for updates
Hmm weird I thought maybe I had installed KB-3102810 already so I decided to install SUR which installed normally. After reboot I ran the Windows6.1-KB3102810-x64.msu file again and this time it went thru an installation. I think I rebooted one more time and now my updates seem to be working

comment Windows 7 SP1 Windows Update stuck checking for updates
I'm confused when I download KB-3102810 I get a file called Windows6.1-KB3102810-x64.msu. When I disconnect from the internet, reboot, and run this file, it doesn't seem to install anything rather it opens up a dialog with the title "Windows Update Standalone Installer" that says "Searching for updates on this computer...". This makes me feel like it's expecting to be connected to the internet.

comment Monitor not displaying native resolution
Yes it is erratic. Happened again today after being fine for a while. The above trick did not work this time. Then I read this forum AMD Radeon HD7700 - Stuck at 640 x 480 Resolution which suggested unplugging and replugging in the DisplayPort cable (what I'm using in my case). No reboot necessary. Do this fixed it for the time being, we'll see for how long. Sounds like a different issue than yours but may help someone else.

comment Monitor not displaying native resolution
@Insane: This problem just happened again to me today. Once again I tried uninstalling the monitor driver and rebooting but the problem was still there. Then I tried uninstalling the monitor driver again AND after that checking the "Make this my main display" (it was originally my main display but after the resolution change my other monitor became the main display) and then rebooting. This fixed the problem for me. Not sure if the multiple reboots did the trick of the combo of uninstalling the driver and setting the main display.

comment Monitor not displaying native resolution
If you google around there are plenty of people having issues with multiple monitors under windows 10. Did you try the monitor on another non-windows 10 machine? Maybe even try a Ubuntu Live CD or something. My second monitor wouldn't display in proper resolution in Windows 10 (after previously working). I went to device manager uninstalled the Generic PnP monitor driver and rebooted windows and now it displays the proper resolution.

comment Fastest copy to copy files over the network between Windows 7 PCs?
Crossover cables are usually not necessary for gigabit Ethernet: "Gigabit and faster Ethernet links over twisted pair cable use all four cable pairs for simultaneous transmission in both directions. For this reason, there are no dedicated transmit and receive pairs, and consequently, crossover cables are never required for 1000BASE-T communication." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium-dependent_interface#Auto-MDIX

comment Why does robocopy still try to copy Thumbs.db even with XF option?
@Moab: do you mean with an asterisk or with lower case? I did already try the lowercase version which gave the same result.

comment DisplayPort Link Failure after monitor sleep?
@pickypg: yeah it's a finicky problem. I thought I fixed it but I haven't marked my answer as accepted because actually I think I just improved it rather than fixed it. My workaround now is to set my monitor to sleep after 3 hours which, in combination with the above changes. means I don't encounter the issue too often.

comment Opera won't stay logged into facebook page after restarting browser?
@AmosM.Carpenter: does this work for you personally where opera stays logged into a facebook fan page? How do you know it works for others? To be clear it keeps me logged into facebook just not the specific facebook fan page. I do not believe I have made any custom privacy tweaks

comment Why I can't redirect using `hosts` file in windows?
it works the other way around. What you've done is when you type www.google.com into the browser it will actually go to IP 1.1.1.1 which presumably has no website.

comment DisplayPort Link Failure after monitor sleep?
@Psycogeek: No adapter, straight DP to DP cable. Monitor does not have MST or SST that I know of.

comment Turning DisplayPort monitor off disables monitor completely
@glenneroo: DDC/CI apparently is a feature of the monitor (as opposed to the OS/video card). I was able to access the DDC/CI setting via my Asus monitors menu going into "OSD Setup"

@ТомицаКораћ it does work. For example see: askubuntu.com/questions/36183/… however, you probably should open a separate question to get this solved.

See trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Encode/H.264#Encodingfordumbplayers which mentions using -pix_fmt yuv420p and supports this idea.
