comment automatically copy from mac desktop to USB
Hey lockonsk, I recommend you post a question called "How can I write a script that automatically detects a usb key being connected and transfers files to it" on unix.stackexchange.com. I'd love to help but don't have time to write a full script, which is why I posted this is a comment.

Easiest way would be to write a script to monitor udev for the insertion event of your usb key and call a script that will rsync files from your desktop to your usb.

This doesn't answer the question. It should be a comment.

The word from (your column name) is a reserved word. You need to put backticks around it like this `from`. You'll also want to put single quotes around the variables in the SQL string.

comment Progressive upgrade of a RAID array
Hmmm, good questions. Unfortunately I've never dealt with hardware RAID so I'm not too sure what would happen.

You would have to partition the 2TB drives in 500GB chunks.

What does the messages table look like? Are from and to numbers or strings?

comment Is there a way to prevent a partition on a usb key from being mounted?
That's what I was planning to do with at least of the partitions. But I have another partition which contains an OS that I would like to not have mounted when plugged into another computer.

That fixed it. Weird that my ISP's DNS couldn't find it while Google's did. I should have thought of this before.

comment Stream music from XBMC to iTunes over local network
I do use the web interface to control XBMC, but it doesn't allow me to stream content through the web interface though. Unless I'm missing your point.

comment Slow local network with brand new router and DD-WRT
@DavidSchwartz Everything changed: router and firmware. It used to be around 5-6mb/sec if I recall correctly. Yes, 802.11n is supported by my macbook. In DD-WRT my wireless network mode is set to 'mixed' on channel 6 (2.437 GHz) with a channel width of 20 MHz.

comment What kind of cable is this and how far can it be extended?
Thanks for the reply. I looked around and found the same information you did. Most people seem to be using it for video and not audio. I came across this cable to use for extending and it seems to say it can keep a signal from interference quite well. I think I'll give it a shot.

I added the graphics card that originally came with the computer, and it works. Thanks

I'll see if maybe the motherboard is expecting a video card. After all, this was a pre-built computer so it might have been hardcoded that way.

Its a motherboard from a store-built pc (a gateway I believe). The power supply is new. Yeah I didn't think the video stuff was because I didn't have a monitor attached, but the documentation does say the beeps are video related.

I added a picture of the leads in my post. My header doesn't match your diagram :(
