Does your system have Lenovo's recovery partition? If yes, installing Windows through that would be a better solution..

comment Lenovo Energy Management - Battery life on dual boot
I had asked the above question in Lenovo community forums as well. Like any OEM support, a specialist replied stating that the issue has occurred due to dual boot. He also added a note saying Lenovo does not recommend or support multi boot OS as the computer.. Read more

comment Can Windows OS be installed read-only?
You can use something like Deep Freeze. With a simple reboot, any unwelcome or unwanted changes are removed from the system, restoring it to the original state.

Are you trying this on a corporate network? If yes the 2nd point in the answer there is relevant: Your administrator has configured your computer to use Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) instead of Windows Update for servicing. Please ask your administrator to enable the policy to use Windows Update instead of WSUS.

I gave it a try; changed 83 to 7 and the partition can be seen in Windows. Thanks a lot!

comment Windows is unable to detect disk partitions
The partition (sda4) has 'ID' as 83 now. The extended partition is sda3 with sda5, 6 and 7 in it. I have uploaded the fdisk command result screenshot to imgur - imgur.com/GlIEnxV. Is it safe to change the ID there?

I have started using host-only option. Now I am unable to access the wiki installation on my virtual machine despite of using the right IP. As I am unable to figure out what's happening I have also posted a new question on AskUbuntu: askubuntu.com/questions/97599/…

comment Differences between TIFF,TIF,tiff,tif
It's for the application I use - GRASS GIS, I had to come up with the question. For bulk import of data it recognizes files with tif/TIF extension but not tiff/TIFF. So I was thinking of renaming files.
