@barlop I'm rather hoping it's not the drive, seeing as it is a 2TB drive with 3 other partitions on it, however none of the other partitions show this problem - I've scheduled a chkdsk

@DavidFoerster ok so as a belt-and-braces exercise I followed the instructions on sevenforums and made sure any shadow copies for M: were deleted - still no more space...

@barlop I already use windirstat to do the same, as mentioned in the question. The problem is that only half of the used disk space is showing up

@DavidFoerster Not quite sure how to confirm, but the best I could do was check system/system protection, which shows as off (I use norton to back up to my NAS)

Oh wait, it looks like this was a red herring @N_Lindz @DragonLord

Hmm - if it's due to a 20 machine limit I'd say chances are slim - surely the connections would time out overnight? It's more likely that the randomness in occurrence is due to fluctuating usage patterns between departments. I stumbled across Half-open limit fix which looks like it would do the trick, but I'm not sure of the legality. Anyone? @N_Lindz @DragonLord

It looks like this is the problem - it's Windows 7 Pro. It won't be upgraded, you know what Technical Services departments can be like. Do you know any work-arounds?

via the computer - the phone has no trouble using its own 3g or wifi connections rather than attempting to use the usb connection.
