comment tskill in windows 7 versions
Great: Downloaded PSTools, extracted the contents into a c:\windows\pstools folder, and directed the remote app to the pskill.exe in that location. Works perfectly. Many thanks.

comment How can I cancel CHKDSK in Windows 7?
You can re-ask it over there, but I'd just wait. It will be moved automatically when it gets to 5 votes

comment Configuring a separate second home network
As mentioned in the other comments, the network 2 is forced to be a public network because the default gateway is empty. Could this be a problem?

Getting "Request Timed Out" on ping. Yes they can see t'interweb (via network 1).

comment Configuring a separate second home network
Could this be related to the old chestnut about windows 7 forcing networks to be treated as public if there's no default gateway configured on them? - would this restrict my traffic?

@Paul- re subnets. I get you - I read some of the subnetting stuff but it was a bit messy for a noob (I'm a software guy rather than hardware)

The routers are not connected. The second network is intended to be internal only with no access in or out.

I put the mask different as the networks are different - thought this may help the problem as I had the issue with the masks being the same too. The static IPs are because its more reliable address between then machines than using names and DHCP. Good point about the DNS - have removed that from the second net clients completely.

As stated, I had checked that already, but I rechecked anyway and there are no options. (Its actually the most simplistic BIOS I've seen)

Curses - just noticed that the option I'm trying to use is IE9, not IE8. Guess that makes your re-pointer to the docu the answer!!!

Fair comment about nohome. I had already tried other args and ordering. What I pasted into the question was based on other searches on google. See my update for more.

comment Propagating Names for non-machine IP addresses in a home network
Thanks for the info - I was thinking DNS, and looked in my router cfg for one, but nothing was obvious (its not a cheap router either by home standards). I've got domains online already, but this is my internal test environment (I'm a web developer setting up my own project). I did try the host name config, but I guess without dns it's got nothing to go off.
