comment How does one change a PS/2 mouse's polling/refresh/sample rate in 64-bit Windows 7?
IIUC, there wouldn't be a point to increasing the polling rate. You perceive the effect of moving the mouse through changes in the image on your monitor. If you're using a flat panel LCD, it refreshes at 60 Hz; an older CRT would typically refresh at 75 or 80 Hz. Your mouse is already oversampled; you wouldn't get any additional feedback.

comment Fedora VirtualBox Instance Suddenly Invisible
Does the guest (Fedora) show network connectivity? Can you ping the host (Windows) from the guest? Could there have been a change to the firewall settings in the guest? On the guest, what is the output of 'iptables -L'? Is the VirtualBox virtual adapter enabled? In VirtualBox, what type of network connection is configured for the guest?

comment Can I configure BIND to query my router for LAN addresses?
That pretty much gets at the central problem; given my current setup, I can't actually do both things at once.

comment Can I configure BIND to query my router for LAN addresses?
This seems like the right approach in general, though I'd need BIND on my router, not just dnsmasq.

comment Can I configure BIND to query my router for LAN addresses?
I misstated. It seems to use 192.168.1.1 as a forwarder without trouble in general. However, after setting that up, 'dig mykids-pc' gets an NXDOMAIN response even though it lists '192.168.1.1' as the name server, whereas 'dig mykids-pc @192.168.1.1' gets the expected result.

comment Can I configure BIND to query my router for LAN addresses?
Unfortunately, the LAN router has an RFC 1918 address, 192.168.1.1, and forwarding to an RFC 1918 address doesn't seem to work.

comment I am running Windows 7 and want to remove “Games Explorer”
Often, on tech forums, someone will ask how to do something that seems trivial on its face, but may be very difficult to do or may have all sorts of effects that are not immediately obvious. In this case you're asking how to strip out a feature of Windows Explorer, and removing Windows Explorer would cripple your system. Presumably you already know how to delete the icon from the desktop and how to uninstall games. So, what is you're really trying to accomplish?

comment Why is “Everything is a file” unique to the Unix operating systems?
You didn't provide a link. On some searching, I found yarchive.net/comp/linux/everything_is_file.html, quoting Torvald's responses in an email thread, in which he implicitly affirms that the model should be "everything is a file."

comment Does a computer use fewer resources when programs are minimized?
It seems worth noting that the reduction in the use of system resources is trivial: in the example given, by minimizing the application, the working set is only reduced by about 1.2%.

What is it you're trying to do? Fully administer the Linux server, or just move files around?
