comment Is it safe to plug USB devices on 220v wall sockets?
I haven't run across one that's not a switcher in a long time. They're cheaper, smaller, and have lower parasitic consumption. There are times when a linear is appropriate, but those are atypical applications.

comment Is RAID 0 as risky as people say it is?
My experience has been that if one drive fails, the others are about to go too. So, I don't worry so much about RAID 0. Just do your backups. I lost 2 drives out of a 4-drive RAID 5 array the same day, then rebuilt it, lost a 3rd original drive a week later... If possible, avoid drives that are the same age, from the same batch in RAID arrays of any kind? :-)

Yes, worst Windows "feature" ever...

comment WiFi vs. Wireless
I use WLAN because WiFi sounds dumb and no one else under the age of 60 seems to know what "HiFi" is anyways. :-)

Your sysadmin (or whoever is responsible for power at your place) will hate you if you do this. Those portable space heaters use a horrendous amount of power. Great way to start tripping circuit breakers all over the place.

Wouldn't it be better if the arms are lower rather than higher?

comment How to determine what app is generating network traffic?
Several people offered very good suggestions, but ultimately "netstat -b" plus looking for 'ESTABLISHED' was the "most correct" answer for me! Thanks all!

comment Samsung laptop randomly shuts down
Don't blindly follow what it reports though. Some machines seem to have sensors that return garbage. Got a machine here that reports very high RAM temps all the time, but they're actually cool.
