comment Samsung laptop randomly shuts down
Don't blindly follow what it reports though. Some machines seem to have sensors that return garbage. Got a machine here that reports very high RAM temps all the time, but they're actually cool.

comment How do I change the MAC address of my network card?
Ugh. I hate it when people do that. I've been the unlucky person that ended up troublshooting network failures due to multiple identical MAC addresses on the same broadcast domain. MAC address cloning is evil, please don't do that unless people are dying all around you you have absolutely no other option to save them. :-)

comment Which methods help to improve wireless signal?
Higher gain antenna is almost always going to be cheaper than more output power. First, deploy the best antenna for the job, then check cabling, THEN worry about the actual power generated at the equipment.

comment How Good RAID is in Protecting Us from Data Loss?
...and of course, you can have another drive fail right after the first one (or, during the rebuild). I had a RAID 5 array of 4 drives lose a second drive while we were swapping in the replacement for the first failed drive.

comment Does it take longer to download a zipped file than an unzipped file?
That's true for e-mail messages, but does not hold true for all other protocols.

comment Is ZFS and RAID-Z worth using in home made NAS (freeNAS for example)
Solaris makes an excellent NAS solution, with having NFS and Samba...

Same applies to most hardware RAID out there...

comment Is ZFS and RAID-Z worth using in home made NAS (freeNAS for example)
I've found Solaris to be a decent work-oriented desktop OS as well, but can't recommend it for home use (where one might need access to more multimedia apps).

Some of us still use phone modems for Internet access. :-)

Yes, VirtualBox also has a good snapshot feature.

comment What is the impact of leaving a laptop in “sleep” mode (while on battery power)?
Reboot once a day is overkill. I use hibernate and don't typically need to reboot other than patch Tuesday and an occasional BSoD.

comment If my power supply is 700w, do I need a 700w UPS?
A 700w PSU if it were maxed out, would draw more than 700w... Very difficult to do given that most modern PSUs have very specific limitations on all the various rails.
