comment Show the %username% for the logged in user in an elevated command prompt instead of elevated users %username%?
Right now, I'm just using plain ol' batch scripts, but I'm not opposed to getting to know WSH, and this is as good of an excuse as any to learn. I was just hoping there'd be a quick way from a batch file.

Well, my reasons for using eventcreate is that I want to be able to check to see when the script runs. The custom ID, Source, et al makes it easy for me to track stuff that happens in the script. The login message was just an example :)

iAmAdmin is the user account that launches the task. The trigger is when any user logs in.

comment Connecting my Toshiba L655 Laptop to LCD TV with only VGA?
@Jags 1920x1080 is the maximum resolution for a 1080p HDTV. The maximum resolution you'll get over the VGA port on your laptop depends on the graphics adapter in the laptop. Most laptops (aside from some Atom-based netbooks) made in the last 3 years should be able to support the maximum resolution of your TV.

@grawity Your included link is a great post! I wish I'd have read something like that when I was still using Windows 9x!

comment What is the fastest way to mirror a directory tree on a DVD to a local hard disk in Windows 7
I agree with Paul that what you are doing with the ISO should be the fastest, but have you tried copying the disc using the command prompt? On XP at least, that used to be a little faster than the GUI for large amounts of files (I think because of the attempt to estimate the transfer time with the GUI).

+1 DOS in Windows 98 is 16 bit. The Windows GUI is a 32 bit wrapper on top of that. For Windows 3.1, there was some Win32 library hacks, but that was never extended to DOS (AFAIK).

You will need an HDMI cable that goes from the TV to the converter box, and a Male-Male VGA cable to go from the converter box to the laptop. You don't really have to buy these cables at Monoprice, but I use them because they are cheap and well made. The maximum resolution is determined by the converter box, which will be 1280x768.
