comment Reinstalled windows on same drive, windows.old folder is broken
I still cannot copy the folder. The windows copy (ctrl+c/ctrl+v in explorer) stops Calculating at 316 101 files forever (but the window does not freeze) and canceling it requires a restart of explorer.exe. Teracopy crashes 21% in, while reading old files from quake. CHKDSK finds no error on the disk.

comment Reinstalled windows on same drive, windows.old folder is broken
Added permissions and did a reinstall of my backup program, and now it works. I chose this answer because I still want to backup the files in my old home folder, i.e. not remove the windows.old folder.

Primarily prank, or because I feel like doing it, but secondarily to learn.

There you go. Everything I think might be related should be in the question now. If you miss anything, tell me. Basically everything is default.

@heavyd do you really need the full bash command and putty settings?

comment PuTTy Windows SSH doesn't accept UTF-8 password
I can login to other users, using non-utf8 passwords. Everything works fine then. I'm just using the standard ssh from command line on mac/linux.
