comment Anomalous computer icon overlay
Hmm, could be, thanks. This is the first reply anywhere we've gotten on the problem. Hopefully, next time it happens, I'll be able to provide during/after pictures.

Hmm, not sure I got the right image. Might have to wait for them to come back. The previous overlay looked like four linked monitors.

@mteckert: That could be it. Expirementation to ensue.

Ah; second information. I'm doing tech support for family, BTW. "They tend to move in rows and collumns", so while they move arbitarily, they tend to move as a group.

Right, sorry. Windows XP. Not sure what you mean by "desktop icon program". "Align to grid" and "Show desktop icons". I'll get something up. "Moving arbitrarily and without pattern" is the best description. The're kept all on the left side of the screen, where XP likes to put them. However, they will arbitrarily be found elsewhere on the screen in no discernable pattern.

Nope; they're just in different locations. Various numbers, different places.

Junctions do not work for Documents and Settings folder. Idea disproved.

Windows 7 would be the platform from which I make these changes.

Not using Linux; I only have one computer; it's not in the processes; that's a Linux command; that's a Linux command; yes, it's not there, but I will try a restart; Thunderbird, for some silly reason, does not seem to have an option to specify A) Import from Thunderbird and B) the location from which to import.

"Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." And, as stated - I checked. There is no running "Thunderbird" or like-named process.

comment Getting Aero to work with Windows 7 64-bit
It's looking like Windows 7 really doesn't like the thumb drive I'm using, to the point of even having trouble starting up. Which is strange, as it's just a data drive.

It reported that it couldn't test my computer's video playback. No reason why.

Hmm...Forgot to mark an answer, sorry. This is probably it, but I haven't tried it.

Tested a different monitor cable; same result.

It's the monitor or the monitor cable, then; hooking it up to a different computer got the exact same white screen.
