comment How do you determine that your hardware is 64 bit capable when there is no operating system installed?
If the machine is 32-bit, booting 64-bit Ubuntu will produce an error message along the lines of "this kernel requires an x86-64 CPU but only detected an i686 CPU".

comment Why does my LD_LIBRARY_PATH get unset launching terminal?
You can also restore LD_LIBRARY_PATH in .screenrc (instead of .bashrc): setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH "$PRESERVE_LD_LIBRARY_PATH" followed by unsetenv PRESERVE_LD_LIBRARY_PATH

comment Monitoring the microphone level with a command line tool in Linux
A slightly more elegant solution, which supports half-second resolution and doesn't require a temporary file: while true; do amixer set Master $(rec -n stat trim 0 .5 2>&1 | awk '/^Maximum amplitude/ { print $3 < .15 ? 80 : 0 }'); done

comment Can't ping another Teredo client behind the same NAT
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I think I'm having the same issue (except my computers are on different NATs). It's very strange because an IPv6 Port Scanner reports that connections work.
