comment Windows 7 doesn't request MTU from DHCP server; what is it thinking?
i got my (mis)information about Path MTU Discovery relying on TCP MSS from this MSDN article. i see now that just read it wrong. Consulting RFC1191 - Path MTU Discovery would have been the better choice. Now i'm left to wonder why the local router isn't responding with ICMP Destination Unreachable - Fragmentation needed but DF flag set. pfSense just released version 2.1, and it doesn't send ICMP 3-4 :(

@MichaelHampton What is the problem? (an MTU other than 1500 is not a problem)

Then his only option is to buy the faster machine and observe for himself that things are not any better

@MichaelHampton These two machines are on the same LAN. But there is a router, that routes IPv6 packets to the Internet.**That** router is connected to the IPv6 Internet using a tunnel.

comment How does Google Chrome store passwords?
@rogerdpack It absolutely is correct that once you type in your encryption password, that other applications can access those stored passwords (which is true of all encryption systems).

comment How to make Google Chrome honor my Windows DPI setting?
That just disables desktop composition of non-highDpi aware applications. The same effect can be achieved by disabling scaling of just Chrome. (Bonus chatter: Don't use a global solution to solve a local problem Either way, it doesn't solve the problem.

i'll throw out a link to a detailed answer where i used xperf to solve an issue. It might be useful to get started with xperf.

comment Windows 7 Remote Desktop Connection Save Credentials not working
If i did own RoyalTS: my question still stands. Especially for people who are have never been able to solve this problem for the last five years; and came to SuperUser hoping for a solution.

Unfortunately RoyalTS doesn't handle full-screen, 32-bit color, is a separate download. And switching to another client doesn't solve the problem in this client.

@harrymc Yes. Windows 7 connecting to <= Server 2003 R2 works. Windows 7 connecting to >= Server 2008 fails. (See Appendix C in the question)

@ScottChamberlain Yes. Client, and Servers all joined to the same Windows Server 2003 R2 hosted domain.

@harrymc Windows 7 client connecting to Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows 2012 server. The added screenshot just added says "RDP 7.1". It's all one domain here (avatopia.com). It does not fail when connecting to Server 2000, 2003, or 2003 R2 (all client connection attempts from same Windows 7 client machine - again, on the same domain as all the servers)

@alsadk Sure, why not. i'm not the one who decides Cisco's terminology; i'm just the one that wants them dead.

comment How to allow local LAN access while connected to Cisco VPN?
+1 for Mac client; which doesn't apply to me. And while this command might work, the Cisco client might delete it shortly after being created (the Cisco client seems to prevent anyone from changing routes)

@harrymc No, what i was saying is that i had already created the registry key. It did not effect any change, and did not affect the behaviour. Updated question with screenshot of regedit showing key
