comment How to block a program from using IPv4?
@Ramhound None; as far as i know Windows only has the one. And i can't do it at the firewall level, because i only want to block one application.

comment How can I make localhost resolve to 127.0.0.1 instead of ::1?
This is similar to the bug in Visual Studio's built-in Cassini web-server: it refuses to listen on ::1. As a result: it is, by default, unusable. Hopefully MySql is capable of binding to IPv6.

comment Dual monitors on Windows - How do I set a different DPI or text size on each monitor?
@ChrisSmith Problem with using DWM to scale window contents is that text becomes fuzzy and hard to read. And i hate the fuzzies.

comment How to add Color Scheme to Windows Vista/7/Server 2008/Server 2008 R2?
You can use color schemes to modify UI sizes. You just have to customize the active scheme; you cannot save schemes.

comment Is there a fix to display 0 when arithmetic underflow occurs on the Windows 7 calculator?
i still get -8.1648465955514287168521180122928e-39 (calculator version 6.1.7600.16385). You can paste 4 @ - 2 = into Calculator to easily repeat the test.

comment How can I disable the Windows 8 charms bar?
@Gnoupi Those programs rely on undocumented internal details. That makes them fragile; prone to breaking or causing other problems. That makes them unsupported.

comment How can I disable the Windows 8 charms bar?
i guess, @Gnoupi, that the answer could be: enter into an agreement with Microsoft where, for an undisclosed amount of money, they will sell you source code, from which you are allowed to create a private build of Windows 8 that only you are allowed to run. Then modify the source code to remove *charms." Except the implicit assumption in the question in the question was: how to disable charms in Windows using supported settings, or through a 3rd party tool. Like it or not, there is no way to do that. Like it or not that is the answer.

comment Are there external enclosures allowing external drives to be connected to internal motherboard?
i see there is a SATA technology, call Port Multiplying, allowing multiple drives to be connected to a single SATA port. The total bandwidth is limited to that of the single SATA cable. The protocol also only allows one drive to be addressed at a time, that request must be issued and completed before the host can address another drive. This eliminates the value of NCQ (native command queuing)

i see it really is a smaller $300 case, with SATA-eSATA adapters.

But is there a mechanism in these external boxes then to connect four SATA cables to them? Rather than just one?

The problem is that i only have 1 eSATA port, but 4 SATA drives.

comment How to disable caching in Internet Explorer 9?
@martineau Not reloading a web-page is the correct behavior of the Back button in a browser (RFC2616). The behavior that i (i.e. my mother) needs is to reload a web-page when the Back button is pressed. Finding a way to completely disable the cache is my attempt to solve that. If the cache in IE9 cannot be disabled, then that is the answer. There's no shame in saying "You cannot do that".

comment How to disable caching in Internet Explorer 9?
@Everett Oh, i can't guaratee that the file isn't served from memory, memory that has been swapped to the pagefile, or a cache database - no. But i am sure that IE makes a call to the cache (whether it be in ram, in memory, in virtual memory, in the swap file, in a cache file)

@martineau She knows about pressing F5 after clicking Back to refresh the page. She reported the problem that the page doesn't refresh unless she presses F5.

comment How to disable caching in Internet Explorer 9?
@martineau i could switch to another browser but it doesn't change the behavior - all browsers follow the RFC (test it). She can press F5, that's not the problem - the problem is that she has to press F5. Google, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, they've all solved by problem by adding no-cache, no-store. And i've been unable to convince the author of my mother's favorite site to do the same. So i'm left with a client-side permanent solution.

@Everett Yes, i am sure. Look at Fidder screenshot above - i'm absolutely sure. You can test it for yourself if you like: it's repeatable in Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer.
