comment Workgroup/Domain for a DLP software
He said he had found some software but it requires a domain to operate and he wasn't sure what a domain was. I was trying to explain what it was and some other reasons that you may find having a domain benificial. I'd assumed he had the question of DLP software sorted.

comment How does a sound card determine if headphones are plugged in?
I think the sockets actually have switches in that are operated when something is plugged into the socket. Its a standard part of most 3.5mm jack sockets.

comment Does a power supply draw only as much power as it needs?
It is actually required by EU legislation that all switched mode power supplies over 75 watts include power factor correction.

@Dan, no, we don't get charged for poor power factor. Our domestic customers, like yours, are metered by meters that compensate for power factor and only charge for actual power used. Commercial customers can be charged by PF but I'm not one so I don't know for sure.

@Dan - Ah. I didn't realise that. Yes, here in the UK all PSUs offer APFC. Including the ones that you wouldn't trust to power a bettery charger.

comment Why can't I achieve full speed on a Symmetrical Internet Connection?
Not only do the acknowlegdements get delayed, but if they are delayed for too long then the sender will start re-sending segments, making the problem even worse.

+1 for mentioning that bigger supplies are in-efficient at light loads. Although I'm not sure what APFC has to do with anything.

comment Have an all-in-one modem/router/wifi point; what do I need to add to extend wired/wifi network?
Yes but buying seperates gives more flexability, especially when one of them fails. Also adding a cheap router will mean sticking another NAT device in the middle of your LAN. Not sure what the cheapest router is that lets you turn off NAT, but why have the complication?
