@rob thanks, I didn't realise that. GRC Tech Support confirmed to me that recovery to something other than the disk from which recovery is attempted is not supported in the current version of SpinRite.

@SimonRichter +1 and for a mission-critical system I'd recommend a suitably configured ZFS pool (if the OS can support it).
