comment Why do I have to “align” the partitions on my new Western Digital hard drive?
"as disk density increases the small sectors cause various defects" – I don't understand how a relative size can cause a defect. Please, can you clarify, or provide a link?

comment Can I download the OS X Mountain Lion update and share it with my family?
Voted up, with a side note: in the future, InstallESD.dmg with checksum 8b4869920cd740414fe6b7e3f0b1be3e may not install Mountain Lion to some Mountain Lion-capable hardware. (As a comparison: 10.7.2 is insufficient for some Lion-capable hardware.) For this reason I encourage users to set aside an updatable copy of Apple's Install OS X Mountain Lion.app in its entirety – to not rely on the .dmg alone.

For Time Machine backup of a FileVault 1 home directory, the routine at log out is visible on screen. (The login window does not appear until after backup is complete.)

revised Are Time Machine backups secure?
Now need to distinguish between versions 1 and 2 of FileVault. Making clear that Time Machine also runs whilst the FileVault 1 user is logged in.
