I wonder about the circumstances in which CopyHFSMeta (currently in hfs-191.1) may be run by the operating system.

comment Can I download the OS X Mountain Lion update and share it with my family?
Voted up, with a side note: in the future, InstallESD.dmg with checksum 8b4869920cd740414fe6b7e3f0b1be3e may not install Mountain Lion to some Mountain Lion-capable hardware. (As a comparison: 10.7.2 is insufficient for some Lion-capable hardware.) For this reason I encourage users to set aside an updatable copy of Apple's Install OS X Mountain Lion.app in its entirety – to not rely on the .dmg alone.

For Time Machine backup of a FileVault 1 home directory, the routine at log out is visible on screen. (The login window does not appear until after backup is complete.)

Now need to distinguish between versions 1 and 2 of FileVault. Making clear that Time Machine also runs whilst the FileVault 1 user is logged in.

@Arjan for Time Machine backup of a FileVault 1 home directory: it's not necessary to shut down. Log out suffices.

revised Get a list of all files and their attributes on OS X
When listing attributes, extended attributes and file flags, it's sometimes also useful to list ACLs. Consideration of FUSE use cases.
