comment How to port an Access database to the Mac?
I'm curious: were .accdb files not a feature of Microsoft Access when this question was asked?

Here, LibreOffice 4.3.0.4 does not work with an .accdb file. Base can not import the file. Dragging the file to LibreOffice imports the data to Writer, the result is not useful.

Thanks. Some time in Ask Different Chat I'll be pleased to discuss the suspicion of all panic information.

comment On OS X, what's a double panic?
@Hennes it's a good explanation; make it an answer then I'll vote up (and others can simply vote down with a comment if it's irrelevant to modern OS X). Considering the first answer below, I suspect that it is relevant.

@Ramhound I did so. As far as I recall, the more recent documentation did not contain the relevant information.

If we defocus from ioreg, then wonder whether an answer could involve VolumeToBSDNode

comment Should I symlink my /private/var/vm dir to another volume in OS X Lion?
You might benefit from a separate volume for external swap files, but I should not prefer to use a symbolic link. Prefer the approach given in the linked question.

comment Fix bad blocks on Mac hard disk
@rob thanks, I didn't realise that. GRC Tech Support confirmed to me that recovery to something other than the disk from which recovery is attempted is not supported in the current version of SpinRite.
