comment Unable to ping local machines by name in Windows 7
@wmz Thanks, didn't notice the comment. I guess it makes sense for an internet provider to set it to Peer-Peer, so nobody would spam their hardware with [avoidable] NetBIOS pings / announcements.

What are the possible reasons for this value being set to Peer-Peer by default? Could this be affected by the fact, that my computer was connected to WAN, when I was installing the system?

comment Windows failing to renew IP lease
Thanks for the answer. Buying a 1 Gbit router will be my last resort. And looks like this isn't a Windows-related problem: check the update.

No, nothing of that sort. My second installation was completely fresh, when the problem started occurring (had installed just Chrome, git, ConEmu, that's it).

Come on, why edit, that was a fun little offtopic you had there :)

comment Possible values of %PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%
There's a workaround for the "32bit process on 64bit Windows" problem: just check PROCESSOR_ARCHITEW6432 as well, and if it isn't undefined (i.e. equals to AMD64 or IA64), then this is a 64bit machine. Source.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had the same idea about 1440p, as it was mentioned in the edit. Here's the resulting video. IMO, it does look better, even in 1080p (though, it's a shame that ShadowPlay doesn't support any higher resolutions yet, since I play at 1600p).

Okay, now that I've re-watched some of the videos, they do seem to be alright in motion (though, gotta hate how all the text is becoming blurry in less than a dozen frames from each keyframe). I know that crf is preferred, but I was trying out every possible option. The excessive/redundant parameters were put in due to severe desperation, not by intent :) Some colorspace has to be set, so why not the recommended one. And you are right about the audio. In the end, I think I'll go with crf 18, no need to waste any more time on this :) Thanks for the help.

comment Why can't I index a SUBST'd drive in Windows7?
No, in my case it worked just fine (actually, I enabled indexing yesterday, but since I can't cancel bounty I decided to wait for a proper answer). I pointed out, that question author's problem is a bit different.

comment Why can't I index a SUBST'd drive in Windows7?
Yes, this worked, thanks. On Windows 8 a reboot isn't required. However, Andy said that the relevant check-box is disabled for some reason, hence, this can't be considered as a complete answer to the original question. P.S. I will award the bounty in one hour.

Did't help, some folders are loading for ages. AFAIK, NET is based on SUBST.

comment Windows - hosts file resets without my interference
Sorry for the... um.. delay. Recently gave it a try, no success. Over some time I've noticed, that Youtube isn't the only one, who disappears. A week before I've switched to the StayFocusd extension. It takes a bit less time to simply disable it than to find the hosts file and remove a line, but I've done that just once, the productivity seems to be fine.

comment How do I delete previously entered items from Google Chrome Omnibox?
@TomWijsman History is clear (by searching example.com), I don't have any bookmarks/favorites, it isn't in the FVS list (it's the one on a new tab, right?). I think it's a history glitch, something I can't see left in it. However, I don't want to clear the whole history to solve this, sometimes I forget some addresses. It's not that I'm very concerned about this, just wanted to be sure, that I didn't forget to check something obvious.

comment How do I delete previously entered items from Google Chrome Omnibox?
@TomWijsman That's not my case, I've set up a custom search engine, without suggestions ("google.com/search?q=%s"), so it shouldn't normally display sample.com. Secondly, it looks just the same as a simple visited link (the same icon and text color as sample.com/index.php). Thirdly, if that was a suggestion - it isn't random, it's like I write "s" and always get superuser.com instead of stackexchange.com, for example.
