comment Why do windows keep snapping back to the upper left corner? (windows 8.1)
The updated question addresses Snap. The Snap feature is not enabled, and this is not what the snap feature does. The window is not resized, and I can't drag it away from the corner (or it jumps back).

No, I don't use the windows Snap feature at all. It is disabled.

I'd be happy to... but to what? "snap to grid" is the closest type of behavior.

This is not that behavior. The Snap feature changes the size and position of windows when they are dragged to the screen edges. (for example, dragging a window to the top of the screen maximizes it). The behavior I'm describing is completely different.

comment How can I merge the gnome clipboard and the X selection?
Nope. For various other reasons, I've switched to KDE recently. klipper is acceptable for kde + synergy, but I know of no usable solution for gnome + synergy. Problems with autocutsel, parcellite and glipper are all laid out in existing answers and comments on this question.

FYI, this remains unanswered because the file in question was not being rolled/rotated/recreated.

comment How to store SSH keys?
This only works if you have some other method of accessing the servers that that private key provides access to. You can upload the new public key only if you have that backup access.

comment Access internal IP using public IP
I have a very similar setup, except I'm using domain names. So from outside the network my domain resolves to my external IP, and from inside, it resolves to the internal IP. I have laptops and smartphones that frequently access from inside and outside, so hacking the hosts file wouldn't work. What I have done is basically what your (Pure.Krome) other answer suggests, only instead of using an external server I'm just telling the DHCP server on the router to prepend an internal DNS server. It mostly works, but there are annoying lags when switching networks before things start resolving.

Why are you doing a lot of mouse work on an HTPC? Is everything browser based?

What about a laptop or smartphone that is frequently accessing the same site via internal or external network?

If you can buy a hard drive enclosure, you can also buy blank CDs.

There are also android and windows mobile versions of KeePass, and probably others.

I didn't vote, but this particular answer is recommending that you disable automatic updates for software that has had recent security vulnerabilities. That's a bad idea. It also doesn't answer the question.

comment How can I merge the gnome clipboard and the X selection?
I tried Glipper, which had a decent workaround for the selection problem: when you've destroyed your previous selection by selecting something else, Glipper lets you access the history and get back what you had. However, it interferes with Synergy clipboard sharing, which is a non-starter. :(

comment How can I merge the gnome clipboard and the X selection?
parcellite appears to successfully merge the clipboards. It does not solve the latter problem, which is pasting over a selection. I like that I can paste a single buffer with either control-v or middle button. I do not like (and would like to disable) selection as copy.

I think the ability to cut at arbitrary frame boundaries might be encoding-specific.

This looked really promising, but running it doesn't appear to change anything. :(

comment “Detach” and “Reattach” xterms across X sessions?
With screen you can actually have different xterms with different terminals. Just use screen -x and switch each xterm to it's own screen. One xterm can have screen 1, another screen 2, etc. This could all be scripted, too... "xterm -e screen -x -p 1 &" etc.

I've hit this, too. Are you using vpnc-connect/vpnc-disconnect by any chance?

tail -f does work, but I'd prefer to work within less.
