comment Is it safe to browse inside from a virtualbox
Not true necessarily. Viruses that spread across networks will just as likely infect the host machine as well as other machines on the network depending on the vNIC settings.

Is your question, 'Is the host machine safe when browsing within a guest machine (VirtualBox)?'

comment Little clarity needed about: PC and Mac and Unix
Apple has come a long way and many people trust them. Their OS is solid and works well with the hardware that they sell. If you were to try and create a Hackintosh with similar parts, you may run into several issues as the OS never took into account that someone would use this kind of hardware and therefore the drivers may/may not work properly. Between the different PC manufactures, some of them take more care in their engineering and compatibility of their hardware. Others try to be first to market with new technology and stability suffers.

That a is completely different question. Think of it like gasoline. There are many different companies that sell gas (Shell, Thortons, Speedway, etc.). The gas from these companies all work and your car runs. However, there are some gas companies that I trust more than others. When I raced, I only used Shell gas in my car. Likewise with computers, if I were to build a new computer, I would only use ASUS, Gigabyte or MSI motherboards. When you get down to the specifics, it's really about which one do you feel most comfortable with and which one do you like the most.

Today, they all use the same hardware. In the past, Apple, had IBM and Motorola processors. Keep in mind that in certain applications there may be some OS specific hardware that is not cross-platform compatible.

Sacrificing security is not part of enhanced productivity. New technology is a part of enhanced productivity. For example, my company wants to build a web application using ASP .NET. I told them that through newer technology, I could build this 10x faster without sacrificing quality. I'm currently developing in Ruby on Rails and within a weeks time have come near completion of the project that they had been working on for 3+ months.

comment What is Hyper-V for
see my edit. Hyper-V becomes a little hog and will block other applications from accessing VT-x when Hyper-V is enabled. Virtual Environment is referred to as the Guest OS.

comment is there a risk to undervolting?
I would think that too much undervolting would be bad. I've seen some electronics die due to brownouts and would think that this would follow a similar pattern.

comment How to connect to machine using internet
Personally, I use a combination of TeamViewer and Hamachi. I use TeamViewer for remote RDP access into some home computers. I use Hamachi for a zero-config VPN to access files from servers.

It's much prettier to debug, easier to make changes to GPA data, etc. Plus a much smaller footprint. :)

comment Graphics card runnig at 8X instead of 16X
Check your BIOS. Most likely you have the pcie bus on auto or set to 8x. Sometimes the pcie slot you put it in can also operate at only 8x. Adding other cards can also make a pcie bus operate at only 8x.

comment How to set IIS online?
You may have your firewall blocking outside (outside of the local machine itself) connections to that machine. To test, disable the firewall to see of that works. If it does, reenable the firewall and adjust it to allow connection on port 80/allow iis service.

The School's admins should be able to provide you with that information.
