comment Are there any calculations when designing a wifi hotspot?
Typically WirelessN gives you the best chance for distance and penetration through walls. However, I would think that every product would differ. On situations where you need to go further than the standard antenna or even with a better one, look into repeaters.

That article was over a year old. More recent ones are saying that there is still no TRIM in RAID. It's coming soon but looks like it's in alpha/beta states. extremetech.com/computing/…

what if you set the connection the way you want then then authenticate the laptop (connected to the router) to the hotel's internet. Their connection may see the IP address of the router and then authenticate it to get online.

Without much more information it is difficult to see what's really going on here. She could have something in her HOSTS file that is blocking it. She could also be at a university and they're blocking other university's websites. who knows.

Some people try to be 'safe' on the internet and will use programs like PeerBlock/PeerGuardian which will block certain websites; one of which can be educational sites.

comment is it possible to toggle among different OS in a multi-boot PC without restart?
I know, but they are referring to having a production workstation to have multiple operating systems with full hardware support. They are looking for a solution that avoided virtualization.

You can also change the BIOS to enable PCI cards as your primary. I'm using the same motherboard as you with an ATI 6970 and Integrated Graphics. 3 monitors on the ATI card and 1 monitor on the integrated.

comment Inadvertently entered a password into the BIOS and now I can't use my laptop
If the motherboard has a jumper and you're able to find it then sure, that is the preferred route. However, not all motherboards have a jumper to clear the CMOS/BIOS. Instead of shorting it, you could just leave the battery out overnight and it would essentially do the same thing.
