comment How do I open the file with extension .srdt?
I'd personally download a small subsdet of Cygwin, and use the unix file utility to see what it thinks the file is. Though that's probably much easier for me than you

PHP, normally, is already in apache.

Note: technically, php isn't (usually) spawned by Apache, instead php runs inside Apache.

@ParthianShot that would still not do what the poster wanted, which is recursive.

It's probably not grep, but how you call your command. Are you using Command Prompt, or a UNIX-like shell? (bash, zsh, etc)

comment How do I check the internet usage of a particular device in my room?
+1 I was going to say the above, but for dd-wrt. If you got the geek cred enough to set it up, dd-wrt has special tools to send data to nice graphs and such.

comment Is there a way to catch all invokations of hardlink creation and replace them with symbolic links?
Replace system ln? and hope nothing else is running that uses it at that time... wouldn't it be safer to make a local ln and set your PATH to that one? if your make system uses hard coded paths, you're SOL, but at least your system isn't gorked

comment HTTPS for the Asus RT-N12 router's web interface
It's a pain - I put DD-WRT on my Linksys.. it's better than stock Linksys firmware (never saw asus firmware, so can't comment). Seems to be worth it for me, and you can always go back (with some pain) if you need.

Not what you asked, but this router does support DD-WRT which does support HTTPS and other goodies.
