comment What are Windows ACLs?
Main page for Windows ACL. You might want to add some additional qualifications to your question, otherwise people will close it and you'll be given links to the MSDN documentation and Wikipedia.

comment The '¤' character
Another way to think of it is a placeholder for a currency symbol. The equivalent of <insert currency symbol here>.

comment How can I see all hidden folders in Windows 7?
Also of great help would be to disable Hide extensions for known file types. Depending on the level of hidden folders you need to see, you could also disable Hide protected operating system files however, modifying or moving anything about in system files is not recommended.

comment How to secure my Windows 7 PC?
Adding passwords to user accounts in Windows is only marginally secure. Unless you encrypt the files on disk, simply removing the drive and accessing it with a different computer is enough to bypass Windows user passwords (not to mention a plethora of utilities designed to circumvent NTLM passwords).

Instead of taking the drive on the road, consider simply hiding it in a closet or a drawer. If the computer does happen to get stolen, the drive might still be around. Alternatively, if you have a safe, use that.

comment Hard drives and SATA3
Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com) has a lot of good information plus benchmark results on hard drives. A lot of attention has been devoted to SSD vs HDD as well as SATA2 vs SATA3.

comment Would Microsoft Security Essentials be adequate protection?
I agree with bobince, the vast majority of issues I repair on my clients' computers tend to never have been detected by their installed software, and could potentially have been avoided if the user had been a little more educated on what sorts of messages/windows/popups are real versus phishing.
