comment Opened up a USB stick and it looks a bit odd
Had data ever been read back from it, or only saved to it? Some unscrupulous vendors sell fake USB drives that appear to save, but don't do anything.

+1 for clear delineation of the kernel vs. the webserver process.

What Floris said. It turns out that for most purposes, 1024 == 1000.

@Kos - for purposes of DOS machines and older people, there's no other kind of Mahjong than solitaire.

comment If RAM is cheap, why don't we load everything to RAM and run it from there?
@symcbean - That's somewhat nitpicking; bear in mind that getting RAM in large denominations (as you'd want in order to replace a disk or SSD) costs more like $25/GB.

comment Why have CPU manufacturers stopped increasing the clock speeds of their processors?
Compilers do have options to target different instruction sets, and/or special "intrinsic functions" that map closely to CPU-specific instructions. It's possible for a single executable to check what family of CPU it's running on, and select a different code path based on that.

Depends on the design of the EQ - a digital FFT-based EQ can have a flat shelf response rather than the humpy filterbank EQ you describe, for instance. I will edit my "exactly equivalent", however, and you're right that compensating with preamp attenuation, if that's available, is simpler.
