I am the co-owner of a small software development firm based in Washington, DC. We have a web-based hybrid CRM/Applicant tracking product called PeopleMatrix. In addition to the off-the-shelf build we use the PeopleMatrix engine (and other technologies) to build custom-tailored CRM, financial and business process automation systems. A lot of this custom work involves integration with heterogenous and legacy environments. It's great to design and build a system that people use to solve real problems and I love the intellectual challenge.

comment Visual Studio: significant performance difference on VMware Fusion vs Bootcamp?
In my current project VS2012, Win2012, VMWare Fusion 5.0.1 with OS X 10.8.2: 9 sec to build on virtual disk, 18 sec using Apple SMB, 50 sec using VMWare shared folders.

comment How to replicate the Handbrake and DVD43 combination on 64 bit Windows 7?
Interesting. XMBC also includes libdvdcss-2.dll and it is easier to get at without installing the thing. You can use 7zip to extract it from the installer exe.

Interesting that every time this gets upvoted, someone comes along and downvotes. What's the agenda?

comment How to pin NetBeans to Windows 7 taskbar?
I can confirm that this works with Windows 7 x64 and the JDK x64. What you do is start Netbeans the first time after installing SevenBeans. Then you pin the icon that is on the taskbar after Netbeans has finished starting up completely. You do get an extra icon during startup on x64 but it goes away after Netbeans is running.

comment is there a way to enforce a whitelist of programs (like AppLocker) on Windows Home Premium?
AppLocker is a much tighter sandbox than just running LUA. It prevents untrusted code from executing at all. You can control the execution of binaries, DLL loading, scripts and installers. That means that malware targeting the user profile rather than going admin permissions will not execute. AppLocker is a really cool security feature and it's the main reason to prefer Enterprise and Ultimate SKUs. I'd like to see MSFT put AppLocker in all SKUs, enable it by default. They need to put a simpler management interface on it for the home user, though.
