Sure, sudo -i is usable. That falls under "assume a root shell".

FYI I'm having best results on my laptop displays when unchecking that "Use LCD font smoothing when available".

comment Select text from Terminal.app using the keyboard in OS X
Aw shucks, thanks :). This was also an exercise in learning for me, to better interact with clients that use tmux (which I prefer over screen, but its not installed on OSX by default).

Yes, thanks Brian, I upvoted both your answers. I'll dig more into possible solutions this weekend, I was traveling this week.

As I'm using Leopard and not Snow Leopard, the option is available in System Preferences -> Appearance. "Standard...CRT" actually looks "normal" to me on the Macbook display, though I'll have to wait to check the external LCD when I get back to the office tomorrow.

I use iTerm, not Terminal.app, and the monospace screenshots are from Macirssi.

So far it has been random. Sometimes detecting displays does it, when I use my external monitor, off/on, or unplugging and plugging in works, that's why I'm asking this question, I suppose :-).

No. But it started just fine the other day, though I'm sticking with Mail.app.

I uninstalled all the updates that were applied when this started happening (~12/8), and it's still broken.

Right. Those directories don't exist because Thunderbird hasn't actually started yet.

comment Use Wii Remote as presentation clicker
+1 because it helped me resolve the issue I had with DarwiinRemote (was trying to power on then use 1+2, when just 1+2 sufficed).
