comment Using External Harddisk as an internal desktop SATA Harddisk
It's worth noting that if you don't want the data, you just want to use the drive, you can probably repartition it and reformat it just fine. If you have somewhere to store the data temporarily you could even copy it off while it's in the enclosure, then install it internally, reformat, and copy the data back.

comment What does “sudo /bin/ls %s %foo” mean?
Sounds like you're misreading and misinterpreting some python. "sudo /bin/ls %s" % foo would be a sensible piece of python involving a format string that outputs a shell command.

comment Would these magnets be enough to damage a portable HDD?
@JourneymanGeek a solid enclosure is just as good as a mesh one (in fact better). But put another way, a mesh enclosure is as good as a solid one (for wavelengths longer than the mesh pitch), uses less material, weighs less, and allows visibility and ventilation.

@davidgo as far as I can see, that agrees entirely with what I was saying.

comment Why do I need an SMTP server?
@barlop the former — they block outgoing connections on 25 from residential links to machines other than their own mail servers (or indeed to anywhere, because they might use 587 or 465 for their own servers). However, it's somewhat of an exaggeration to say that most ISPs do it.

comment Why Hard disk labeling starts with C rather than A?
Windows itself is capable of living at any path (in fact it doesn't even need drive letters at all, they're just symbolic links to UNC paths!) but other software might be less flexible, and so might users. :)

comment Why Hard disk labeling starts with C rather than A?
Also because basically every machine had a floppy controller with support for two drives and there wasn't much of a way to establish the absence or presence of the drives themselves. So A and B were effectively permanently reserved.

comment Would it improve the write performance to fill a reformatted drive with zeros?
Does running a tool like recover not count as "easy"? It would turn up lots and lots of files on a full drive that had just been mkfs'd.

comment Does the part to the right of at sign have to be valid website address?
@JasonStack usually you can't. Most websites don't use Basic Auth. And how would you even do it with GMail, considering that your "username" there is an email address, which has an @ in it? :)

comment Why are PDFs generated from MS Word so large?
Thinking about it from a Kolmogorov complexity standpoint, Microsoft Word is larger than your average PDF viewer, by much more than a few hundred kB.

comment Will stopping hard disk when inactive also stop downloads?
@netniV there's no reason why "doing stuff", especially when the user isn't actively at the machine, should result in frequent disk access. Nearly all reads done by a long-running background app should be served from cache, and writes can be deferred until the disk needs to be spun up anyway for a read, or memory pressure forces a page cache eviction.

Your answer doesn't contain anything specific to Windows 10.

comment What is the actual speed of SATA 3?
I would make the distinction as something like signal rate = 6Gbit/s, data rate = 4.8Gbit/s, throughput = whatever you get out of a drive in the real world.

I can't think of a better way in DOS 1.0, unless you wanted to use EDLIN (and who ever wanted to use EDLIN?)
