comment Can I make cron “random”?
yes, I know - 'data is slow moving' - the plugin gets currency exchange rates from a site and I don't want to be banned. (I'm not a trader but I spend a lot of time having to watch munin graphs) I made a similar plugin for local weather. Endless applications!

comment In Linux: How to get the device name of a USB port after a thumb drive has been inserted into it?
If it isn't mounted to media, then "fdisk -l | grep sd" will show the essentials, without scrolling off the screen if you have a lot of drives connected.

comment What naming pattern can I use for sequential file naming (photos) when only their relative sequence is known?
I suffer the same too. In these cases I just guess the datetime with plausible values based on memories, sun angles, clocks in the photos etc so that they will appear in the desired order. Renaming files manually is tedious regardless of program used and windows explorer is probably the easiest method. Keeping a consistent and fairly universal naming scheme helps a lot.

comment Firefox 5 opens too many instances with one click
ok, thanks... I've never seen this behaviour either, only other thing that I can think of is that a script in one of the tabs in the first instance is spawning the extra windows, but I would expect that you've checked these too. Firebug plugin may shed some light, or if you're using Windows there might be something unexpected in the registry. Perhaps the blunt approach of a reinstall will solve it, but not explain why.
