comment How to get Apache Ant to recognize Ivy
+1 You helped at least one person. It won't even look in ~/.ant/lib if this isn't defined.

comment What stops an internet router from sniffing my traffic?
@MaciejPiechotka, TLS only encrypts point to point. (Not end to end) Each server can read the message in it's entirety and there is no guarantee that the server will use TLS anyway, even if you do.

comment Why is hibernation still used?
@DanielRHicks, I've never heard of running a hibernation image on different hardware before. Can you forward me a reference to that?

It's hard to know what's wrong without knowing when those time stamps were taken. Can you provide what you expect local time to be?

comment Turning DisplayPort monitor off disables monitor completely
My guess is that this is not an OS level setting. What graphics card do you have?

@nhinkle, yes. It's more of the purchasing department that holds me back. I can get manager approval to install onenote if I were to purchase the license.

@nhinkle, Nope, not without higher up approval. It's not a software product we typically use.

As far as I understand evernote is a service, right? Can you use evernote completely offline? Either way I don't think I can use it. It happens to be blocked here.

comment What utility can move my Windows boot partition over to another hard drive?
I just used MiniTool Partition to copy my partition after DriveImage XML failed me. Works fantastic.

I doubt there is any reason you can't just do this on Windows. gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/coreutils.htm

Actually, most of these options will not work if the rar archive is compressed, afaik.

A few other things to try: v12pwr.com/RARFileSource and shapeshifter.se/code/vlc-unrar . I've had success with native VLC unrar, vlc-unrar and rar file source. rar file source is by far the highest successrate, in my experience.

comment How to evaluate if a SSD can be a good option as a backup drive?
@Huskehn, I've had external hard drives just up and die on me. The capacity of the drive is useless if you can't access it anymore. If SSD's aren't going to do this, they would be ideal.

This is the kind of answer I was hoping for. What has caused your SSD to fail? I, on the other hand, have had mechanical drives fail without warning or any recover plenty of times. (Usually have 6+ years though)

comment Using external monitor and screen resolution?
Of course, the laptop doesn't have display port or DVI, so the max resolution will be 1920x1200 for hdmi and 2048x1536 for VGA

comment Is it possible to trace someone using Google during an online exam?
Also, I feel like this is a stupid question. Just use a scantron. It will save the hassle and probably cost less in the end. Trying to get 1000 students to take a test on 50 computers sounds like a hassle in the first place. Further, they will just cheat by telling each other whats on the test.

comment Can I use DDR2 or DDR3 memory on my computer?
For what it's worth, you could put together another machine for under $200 that would be blazes faster than this one. (Using Intel G530 sandy bridge chip). Old DDR memory is pretty expensive. I would recommend just building a new machine.
