comment Ways of backup and restore/recovery in Windows 7
Thanks! (1) So the recovery partition is for the whole drive (including all partitions on the drive). Are "Backup and Restore* and "System Restore" also for the whole drive, or some partition, or just installed OS and software? (2) Is the "image" created in "Backup and Restore" same concept as the "restore point" in "System Restore"? (3) Where are the "image" created in "Backup and Restore" stored? Same question for the "restore point" in "System Restore"? What is stored in the System Volume Information folder in each partition?

@Bobby: I meant when taking my laptop to different places, for example, office, home, and some other places I frequently travel to.... I hope I don't need to carry the same set of disks around all the time.

Thanks! How do you recommend to make a copy? Simply copy, or make some iso files, or something else? And store to another storage device.

@Bobby: I don't know what you are implying. It has been quite a while since the laptop was purchased, and it could be out of warranty when bad things happen to the recovery disks.

Don't know if proper to ask here. Could you look at my comment on your reply here about recovery partition and dual install with Ubuntu: superuser.com/questions/241383/… ? Thanks!

Thanks! I am allowed only one time to create recovery disk. So I cannot try again. But is it possible to copy the recovery partition on to a removable disk and can this be used for recovery?

comment Partitions for dual boot install Ubuntu with Windows
Thanks! Just to make sure, are these what you were trying to say: (1) if I dual install Ubuntu, the recovery partition will be of no use any more? (2) if I restore from the recovery disks created from the recovery partition, all the modification to the partitions and all the contents added to them after the recovery partition was created at factory will be gone?

I am not sure it the wizard gave clear instructions or not. Could it be possible I accidentally launch the wizard twice? But in the end when I was told the process was finished, I had three DVDs. The first two were called disk 1 and disk 2. I updated my post to give pictures of how they looked like.

Thanks! I clicked the recovery partition and followed the instructions to burn the CD. I have created more than one CDs. The first two were both called disk 1, and now the third is called disk 2, by the wizard. So I am still confused what the whole creation process is like.
