comment Notepad-like text editor with autosave
Thanks Rik. Do you have personal experience with the Notepad++'s autosave feature? I've been looking around and it seems there are lots of problems: stackoverflow.com/q/24471044 superuser.com/q/483218

comment Windows XP don't show login screen after opening laptop lid
@dx486 thanks. I use software like Notepad or R, it has no autosave feature unfortunatelly... Or do you know how to have Notepad with autosave? I posted a new question on that: superuser.com/q/842119/93604

@dx486 that would not help - the keyboard is working (the caps lock, num lock etc. change the leds). So, is it better to keep the lid open or close it? My intuition tells me that it is better to keep it open, sometimes the Dell didn't hybernate when it was closed.

@dx486, is it better to close the lid after unplugging the cord, or keep it open? In which case do I actually have more chance to get hybernation? Sleep won't happen.

@dx486 Win+L doesn't work either :( Yes, this was my idea as well, I tried it for some time and I got the warning alert telling me that the battery is almost out and I should plug in the power cord, but nothing happened in next 15 minutes. So I am afraid that the hybernation won't be triggered, despite it normally works.

comment how to use HTTP over all computer? on windows and ubuntu
@BigChris this is not true. For example firewalls can enforce proxying without applications being aware of it. There will probably be ways how to enforce this fw behaviour on localhost.

comment Skype pending messages
1) I used outdated skype for a long time and had never had this problem. Everything works, but not this. 2) Do you see the pending message indicator yourself in the current skype version?

comment Why does FileZilla ask for password every now and then?
But I don't want to save the passwords!!! That is a BIG SECURITY FLAW!!! There are many viruses that go after saved FTP passwords to hack websites!

+1 This is exactly what I wanted to recommend! Besides rm ~/.bash_history~ to remove the backup file in the OP's case when it has been already saved

comment What does end of Windows XP support in 2014/04 mean for the end users?
I accepted this answer despite of it being less verbose than the other one, because it addresses the points of my question directly and clearly. Verbosity is not the most important criteria.

comment My colleague often shuts down my machine through the LAN - how do I prevent it?
@HarryJohnston "by default you need Administrator privilege to remotely shutdown a computer." - you mean Administrator privilege on his own machine, not the remote one? That can be anyone! Just bringing his laptop and connecting to the LAN. This is definitely not a safe.
