comment Why does VIM show the Unicode code point and not the UTF-8 code value?
Thank you romainl. Actually, I did read :h ga but did not read the g8 section that came after it. I quote from :h ga "Print the ascii value of the character under the cursor ... When the character is a non-standard ASCII character, ... the non-printable version is also given." I guess that the text of that document may have been written before UTF-8 support and since both the Unicode code point and the UTF-8 code value are the same hexidecimal value for code points <=127 there was no need to make a distinction at the time.

@MosheKatz: You owe me a T530 keyboard. Next time put the disclaimer at the beginning!

Thank you Heptite. Other than the viminfo='100,<50,s10,h line, the only other line is Last set from ~/.vimrc.

hwmon0 -> ../../devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:18.3/hwmon/hwmon0 This also is a real, non-virtualized system (MD A4-5300).

@dasup: Yes, it looks like that is what I will have to do. I'll see if I can keep a binary of sensors around to run from my personal ~/bin/ as well.

What type of laptop is this, so that I might avoid it? Any well-engineered laptop should channel spilled liquids away from critical components, not into them. Even cheap $10 keyboards are designed to channel liquids in a safe manner.

Thank you romainl! I'm still learning to understand that manual, but at least I'm reading it. Note that neither set viminfo+=<500 nor set viminfo='100,<500,s10,h in ~/.vimrc had any effect. Even after closing and reopening vim, I still see for set viminfo? this : viminfo='100,<50,s10,h. The string viminfo does not appear anywhere else in ~/.vimrc.

Thank you very much. I did +1 for the information, but neither of my systems have temp1_input in the hwmon3 directories. I seem to have only device/, power/, subsystem/, uevent. Note that these are hardware-installed machines, not virtual machines.

comment How to run a minimal Linux inside a running 64-bit Windows 7
When running programs over forwarded SSH, one cannot copy and paste. I would consider a non-intrusive solution to support copy-paste.

comment How to go to the n'th character, not byte, of a file?
Hannah just splits the ages of my own two daughters, and as you know the name is used in Hebrew as well as Japanese. If you and your loved every visit Israel, there is a cold beer waiting for you and two friendly girls who would love to play!
