comment Does simple rescaling from 1080p to frame height of 720 lead to 720p?
How could resampling from 1080 pixels to 720 pixels not lose data? That would violate the pigeonhole principle.

comment What do the [..] mean in 'ps' and how do you create a process like it?
@RyanN, it means that kernel thread is running on the first CPU.

comment “chown -R root /” how screwed am I?
This cannot be undone automatically, and yes, it has a significant impact on your system (including, but not limited to, the various home directories). I hope you have a recent backup handy. Good luck.

comment What's *nix terminal command to find and remove found files?
Probably not what you want to hear, but systems that have been infected by malware usually cannot be trusted. Partial recovery might lead you to think your system is secure again, which may not be the case. I would recommend wiping everything and reinstalling from scratch.

comment Can't terminate a nohup process
I'm pretty sure nohup is not supposed to trap SIGTERM, unless you happen to be using the 4.3 BSD version. Maybe the script itself is ignoring the signal?

comment What is the fastest way to move a million images from one directory to another?
I don't think you can beat mv, performance-wise, if both the source and target directories reside in the same filesystem.

comment How to delete a file with a weird name?
@Aditya, that other file must have non-printable characters in its name. Try the following steps: 1/ Move all the valid files out of that folder, 2/ Issue rm * inside the folder.

comment How to delete a file with a weird name?
@Aditya, I have no problem deleting such files from the command line when escaping their names with single quotes (rm '?d?P?^z??d?P?^z?'). Did you try that?
