Probably cheaper to get a ups, and plug the laptop into that. When power goes out here, the phone lines switch over to backup power, but turn off their internet. Plugging the phone box into the ups fixed that, for me.

comment Does Apache or WiFi change when macbook is on battery?
Havn't docked it for ages. But it was fired up (is that the term? Associated with an iTunes on that computer) from the laptop serving the web page. Otherwise, the iPads only wire to the rest of the world is for power, and over WiFi.

I am trying to get it to fail again. It might be some quirk on the iPad. Another mac on the lan gets it so far.

comment Emergency ad-hoc network using home computer wifi
I found 'olsrd', an adhoc wireless mesh routing daemon, that looks like it would do the trick. A bit beyond super user, and on to server-fault, perhaps.

That is a nice cartoon cookie. The drop shadows will give trouble using color-range. So make masks, set your brush to round and sharp, and paint the mask white over the chip parts. Remember to select the mask before you paint!
