comment Vim shows strange characters <91>,<92>
@lambacck: I was assuming that the file contains the literal strings "91" and "92", and in that case this command is correct. If these are hex characters, then you're right, you'd need your substitution command or something similar.

comment How to change language in MS Word table style
I'm reading the original question as that he does want to spell-check the table contents, just not in English. Your way would disable spell-checking altogether.

comment Fill sparse rows in Excel
Are you sure about that? Looks like your logic is backwards (<>"" means that the cell is not empty). Also, the parts of an IF statement in an Excel spreadsheet have to be delimited with commas rather than semicolons.

Can you try printing just page 138 (if Quickbooks allows you to do that), and see what happens?

comment Why does the margin on a numbered list over 99 become large (2007 Word)?
Sure, but what if he does want the numbers to be left-aligned, just that the following text should always be indented the same distance from the page margin?

comment Windows XP - Hosts file has been tampered with
How about at the command line, using dir /a:s ? That would display it if it's got the system bit set. Then you could use attrib -s on it.

comment How do you gunzip a file and keep the .gz file?
true, but only if you have GNU tar. The one that comes with Solaris, for example, doesn't support the z option.
