comment Why does SSH hang at the end of these commands and how can I make it exit?
Does it work if you replace the contents of the <<EOI block with something like "echo 1"?

comment Can I hide BIND mount points from DF?
"df --exclude-type=none" will do it, although that might hide other things too. On my ubuntu system, df already seems to ignore bind mounts, and I have to run "df --all" to see them.

comment Convert PDF to JPG via GhostScript
If you have access to something like pdftoppm then that'll let you convert any page(s) of a pdf into a ppm image of your chosen resolution. Then you can use ppmtojpeg to convert it to a jpg.

comment Word document lost without a trace
Might be worth doing find / -name "STARolicySTAR" which would find similarly named files, e.g. if the extension has been changed somehow. Change STAR to an asterix character in that - I can't seem to make it show up here!

comment what is dns hijacking?
Well - according to Wikipedia ;) it's this: "DNS hijacking or DNS redirection is the practice of subverting the resolution of Domain Name System (DNS) queries. This can be achieved by malware that overrides a computer's TCP/IP configuration to point at a rogue DNS server under the control of an attacker, or through modifying the behaviour of a trusted DNS server so that it does not comply with internet standards."

comment Why doesn't Ubuntu show my wireless device after updating the kernel?
Have a look in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf (and similar files) to see why b43 is blacklisted - AFAIK it's the latest broadcom driver. Also you might like to run jockey and see if it suggests any better drivers for your wireless card.

comment Two routers in a LAN
Router B probably won't assign an IP address to itself that has just been configured on router A - I.e. you'll have to assign it manually on router B. But you should be able to set it up as per your diagram.

comment Recover ADSL password for my Linksys WAG54G2
Routers often have something like a "backup configuration" option that gives you a text file of the settings. Is there one of those on your router?

You could use paste-special, or just fix it using the "format painter" each time.

Try running "rpm -vi some_rpm.rpm" in a terminal as root (or with sudo) and update your question with the output (if it's useful...).

What kind of shared disk is it? (Samba, NFS etc.) Can you give an example of the folder's path and also include the output of df if it's mounted.

comment Fear of apt-get upgrade: Will it break my website?
I've upgraded apache and php using apt-get upgrade a few times and never had any problems. HOWEVER, I do have a sandbox server for such occasions and would try it there first. Do you have the ability to make a snapshot backup of the whole system, so you could restore it if it does break?

Try running "strace soffice" and update your question with the last few lines (if they seem relevant).
