I'm a hobbyist programmer, part-time sysadmin, and full-time data center management, automation, and cloud computing architect and delivery engineer.

I have experience with myriad editors, shells, and OSes. While I have my [strong] preferences, am pretty much beyond the religious wars of "what's best" when it comes to platform, editor, or toolset: if it works for the problem at hand, and you know it, it's [probably] worthwhile :)

comment Operation not permitted error when deleting as root
@Scott - the question is about external hard drives and linux: Dubious' answer is about an SD card from an Android device that needed to be deleted using Windows. The answer has nothing to do with the question, and is barely tangentially similar.

comment Swap partition size on a 64 GB RAM computer for memory-intensive work
@T.C. is right, ArmanX - if you're trying to avoid using flash (SSD), why would you use flash on USB? That's irrational.

See also this Server Fault q&a - if you're running Java (and possibly other apps), you want to make sure you have enough swap for them to increase their memory allocations. I personally stick with the RHEL standard of RAM+2 for my swap partition

comment Yum does not install specific RPM version with custom repo
Do you need to feed it the --allow-downgrade flag because it's already aware of the newer version? Also, yum-versionlock may become necessary on that machine forever after.
