comment Best Floppy Drive for reading old floppies
I forgot to ask an obvious question - The disks were created on a PC, right?

Does this only happen in your web browser? Try Opening wordpad or notepad and see if it happens there too. Do any of the keys feel like they might be stuck?

The part of the disk where bootcamp is may be fine, but you could have bad sectors on the os x partition. I would test the disk to at least eliminate it.

comment Windows XP slow directory move
@maaartinus - is 4k the file size or number of files (as Wil suggests). If it's the size, then 200,000+ files in one minute is not that bad. Try copying them too and see how long that takes.

Actually a move should be pretty quick - just the directory entries to update. @maaartinus did you move the files or copy then delete the originals?

A few thoughts: Does a reboot cure the problem? Does it happen with all games or just one? Is the card overclocked? Do you have the latest drivers?

comment Which virtual machine can boot from USB drive?
This is useful information, however there is a typo in the script to determine the physical drive number; it is hard-coded to search for physicalrive1. Change the 4th line of the script to: "SELECT * FROM Win32_DiskDrive WHERE Name like '%\\\\.\\PHYSICALDRIVE%'",,48)

On your laptop, if you type ipconfig /all at a command prompt, what's the result? Is there any difference when it's working/not working?

@Zoredache - We're tied to using IE for support reasons, though I may try downloading a file via another browser to see if it makes a difference. We have many preexisting files created via XP machines plus files downloaded on the Win-7 PCs and the behavior is consistence i.e. works on XP but not on Win-7, regardless of the origin of the file.
